Earlier this week, I shared some tips on curating a capsule wardrobe and mentioned that I'd be back with some fitness gear to add to your closet.  In today's post, I'm going to share my workout necessities that I use every day to stay on track with my fitness goals.

In whatever type of exercise you do, it's so important to have good-quality gear that will last a long time and be able to withstand the beating you give it every day.  These are my workout essentials.

I have to admit that the idea of a sports bra terrified me until I purchased the one I'm currently using. I had nightmares of the ones I wore when I played softball or cheered in high school - those super tight, ugly white ones of yesteryear.  You know the ones I'm talking about.  You'd feel like they either offered no support or that you were wearing a suit of armor and couldn't breathe in them.  Well, when I was invited to join this campaign, I went to Target and was so surprised with the advancements made in sports bra technology since my high school athletic career.

I picked up the Champion C9 Enthusiast Racerback in black heather.  When I tried it on at home, it was both supportive but plenty flexible so I could breathe and even move my arms above my head with ease.  I really loved the ribbed band that went around my chest and how breathable and comfortable it was while still offering moderate support for the exercise I do.  I will be going back to pick up a few more in different colors soon!  For around $20 a bra at Target, you can't beat the price!

I do primarily yoga and pilates with some weight work and a little jogging, so I need pants or shorts that hold their shape well.  I have found that the Champion C9 active yoga pant works great for me. They fit well without constricting me in any areas, don't ride up or sag down when I'm downward dogging and the legs are nice and slim so I can actually run in them without getting tangled up.

Choose a workout pant that you can squat and stand up in without needing to adjust your waistband. Look for material that is both breathable and soft but offers a stretch without losing shape after the first few washes.  The C9 active yoga pant is buy one get one 50% off at Target right now!

Whether you are walking around the block in the evenings or training for a marathon, you know that great shoes make the difference.  Select athletic shoes that are made for the purpose for which you need them.  Most sports stores categorize their athletic shoes by their purpose, so go for what you need. Make sure they fit properly and are supportive and comfortable to run or walk in.  These shoes should last for quite a while, so don't be afraid to make an investment on good footwear.

Staying hydrated is key when working out, so having a big, no-spill water bottle is a must.  Look for one that has either an easily removable cap or a pop-up straw like the Contigo Autospout I use.  Mine is easy to clean and holds 32 ounces, so I'm not constantly stopping to fill up.

Music always gets me fired up and ready to kick some proverbial butt in the gym or out on the pavement.  These days, building a workout playlist is simple.  You can download mp3s and build the collection on your phone, or you can download an app like Pandora or Spotify and listen to existing playlists or create your own.

What necessities do you recommend for a good workout?
