Summertime is just around the corner and it's a great opportunity to get out and enjoy the longer days, the warmer weather and time with your love. Whether you are a new couple or have been married for years, spending time alone together is key to keeping your relationship fresh. Here, I'll share my ten favorite summer date ideas and I hope you can do a few with your sweetheart.
HAVE YOUR COFFEE IN A PARK
Put a twist on the traditional "coffee date" by picking up your brew and going for a walk in a park. This gets you outdoors and into the sunshine where you naturally produce more feel-good endorphins. Bonus points if you pack (or pick up) a little breakfast picnic to have along the way.
DRIVE DOWN A COUNTRY ROAD TO SEE WHERE IT TAKES YOU
Grab your partner and hop in the car headed for the country. Take a road you've never been on before to see where it leads you. Make sure you pack some snacks and beverages and either a map or your GPS to find your way back home.
GO BERRY PICKING
Summer is when many varieties of berries and stone fruit are ripe for the picking. Google a local farm that offers pick-your-own opportunities and head out one morning to get there before the crowd. If you don't eat all of your harvest on the way home, you can bake a galette or pie to enjoy with some ice cream.
STROLL THROUGH A FARMERS MARKET
The weekend is a great time to venture out to your local farmers market and check out the haul from the farms surrounding your city. Whether you are going to shop or just walk around, you'll find great inspiration with all the fresh, seasonal produce, beautiful, bright flowers, handmade products and lots of yummy prepared food to taste.
SEE A DRIVE-IN MOVIE
Yes, drive-in movies do still exist! It might take a little searching to find one in your area, but when you do, pack a thermos full of hot cocoa and head out to see a flick. Another option if your locale doesn't have automotive theaters is a movie-in-the-park night, put on by your city or town. Enjoying a film outdoors beats sitting in a cramped theater any day!
TAKE A DAY TRIP TO THE BEACH
If you live relatively close to the shore, this is a great option. You can also pack up and go hang out at a local lake for the day. Maybe you like to browse the tourist shops or go a bit more extreme like jet skiing, a day near the water is a nice change of pace for you and your significant other.
GO TO A CONCERT OR FESTIVAL
Music is a great way to connect with your partner. Grab some tickets to see a band you both like or spend all day at a music festival. Although you won't get a whole lot of talk-time in, you will still have a great time singing along with all your favorite tunes.
MAKE S'MORES, TURN THE LIGHTS OUT AND WATCH A THUNDERSTORM
If you're a weather buff like me, this one is right up your alley. Next time a storm is forecasted, make up a sweet treat, turn all the lights off and snuggle up to watch the lightning and listen to the rain pouring on the roof. Turn on some music and enjoy the together time.
WATCH EACH OTHER'S FAVORITE MOVIES
Netflix and chill? Block out a night to be together, pop some popcorn and rent each of your favorite movies. Spend the evening finding out why your partner loves those films and maybe finding a new favorite of your own.
This is the ultimate romance date. Check the forecast to make sure the sky is clear in your region and go out to a remote spot so you can stare up at the sky. Download a "night sky" app that will show you what constellations you are looking at. Bonus points if you choose a night when a meteor shower or lunar eclipse is expected.
