Simple Gratitude | 33 #MoreLoveLessHate

Today I'm sharing my #gratefulheart on the blog #gratitude #feelingthankful

A little over twenty-four hours ago, over a hundred people were gunned down in a nightclub in Orlando, Florida. Some are alive, but many are not. I wanted to dedicate this post to the lives lost, the lives hurt and the lives forever changed because of this senseless act of hate and terror.

I will preface this post by saying that I don't want to start a battle focusing on the hot-button topics such as gun laws or gays or Muslims, but rather to start a discussion about the need for love, open-mindedness, and respect for human life.

My heart goes out to the loved ones of those lost and injured, the LGBTQ community, the city of Orlando and everyone affected by this terrible tragedy.

In light of these events, today I'm grateful for:
  • Each of the lives lost and injured in Sunday's shooting. I don't know any of the victims, but I do know that they were special to someone. They had family and friends and significant others. Their lives were important and precious and they shouldn't have come to a standstill so soon.
  • The community of Orlando. The first responders who secured the scene, cared for the victims and tried to provide some sense of order to the chaos. The medical professionals (many working double shifts) who waited outside the hospitals as ambulances dropped off the wounded. The hundreds who stood in line for hours waiting to donate blood to replenish the stocks lost due to the overwhelming need. The many caring souls and volunteers who are holding vigil, updating websites, answering hotlines and providing support to this community.
  • Freedom. The freedom to pray, to love, to believe in whatever we choose is right for ourselves and a country that values those freedoms and protects them.
  • A loving God. One who has a divine plan for our lives both here in this world and in the next. A God who knows our pain and fear and mourns along with us. A God who can heal the wounded and the brokenhearted.
  • This country. This world in which we live. Where there is a thousand times more acceptance than rejection. More open hearts than closed minds. More love and than hate.

What are you grateful for today?

*The blog will be on black-out for the remainder of the week out of respect for the victims.*
