If You and I Had Coffee | vol 5

A conversation over coffee #coffeedates - If You and I Had Coffee | vol 5 - A Simpler Grace

If  you and I had coffee...

We'd meet up at the little organic farm stand down a winding country road, far away from the city. The place always bustles with activity in the fall with people picking out pumpkins and chrysanthemums or grabbing freshly made jars of apple butter. We'd sit at a picnic table right outside the stand and sip hot apple cider from paper cups and marvel at the beautiful day.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd ask you if you were watching any of the fall tv shows and tell you how excited I was that one of my favorite shows, Chicago Fire, was back on. That's a show I always watched with my younger brother, who has been away from home for about a year and was thrilled that he would be home soon and could catch up on the newest season with me.

If you and I had coffee...

I tell you how I've been trying to be intentional in choosing how I spend my time this month. I had been slacking a bit in my goals over the summer months and I've tried really hard to plan out attainable steps so I am better able to accomplish my goals, I'd ask you how you keep track of your goals and if you have a method of reminding yourself through the month. I'd ask you how you handled not meeting goals and if you were hard on yourself like I am.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you how sick I am of politics, specifically the U.S. presidential election. We'd agree that we were tired of the mud-slinging and of not hearing any viable plans to make the country better and how neither party is measuring up to some of the great presidents of the past. We'd both shake our heads and agree that the situation is best in God's hands as He has the ultimate control over it all.

If you and I had coffee...

We'd talk about our Thanksgiving plans and I'd share that for the first time in years, I was actually excited for the holiday and the company it would be bringing. I'd ask you if you were cooking and what your menu plans were. Then we'd talk about Christmas baking and I'd share the list of over a dozen kinds of cookies I plan on making. You'd laugh when I tell you that I'm a baking machine once the holidays hit and how nothing makes me happier than delivering a tray of freshly-baked treats to friends and neighbors and seeing the smile on their faces.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd ask you if you were participating in Dewey's 24-hour readathon and tell you how I'm planning on staying up, with my nose in a book, for the full length of the challenge. I'd share that I'm making a stack of books in the corner by my bookshelf of things I'd like to read that day and how just seeing them makes me smile and get excited. I'm such a nut for book-themed holidays.

If you and I had coffee...

We'd finish our cider and purchase a few things from the stand - me a few of the big and brightly colored mums and you a couple jars of the butter, apple and pumpkin, your favorite. We'd promise to meet up again next month - by then we'll only be a week from Thanksgiving - and maybe enjoy a gingerbread latte by a big stone fireplace.

What would you like to chat about over coffee?

Today, I'm joining Amber & Erin for a monthly coffee date linkup. Every second week of the month, we gather together with our favorite hot beverages and catch up. Care to join us?

  1. Thanksgiving is by far my favorite holiday! Mostly because I love to eat, but also because it just makes me feel so happy to be around my friends and family all day. So much love.
