If You and I Had Coffee | vol 13

 A conversation over coffee #coffeedates
If you and I had coffee...

We'd make up a couple of glasses of strong iced cafe and take them out to sit next to the pool. It's been hot outside lately and the breeze is perfect under the big canopy umbrella. We could sit on the edge of the deck and dangle our feet in the water for a bit or jump right in and grab a float to recline on. Whatever we choose, catching some Vitamin D rays will be a great way to spend the day.

Hi, friends. Have you ever had one of those days when you've felt like you just couldn't do anything right for anyone? Well, it's been one of those weeks around here. I'm exhausted and feeling beaten up. Here's hoping the weekend is a little easier on me. I'm going to be laying low for the next few days but hope to do some soul searching and a whole lot of writing in that time. Hope you have a great weekend loves!

101 in 1001 - A Day Zero Project | The Final Six Months

Checking in for the last six month countdown in my Day Zero Project! #101in1001 #dayzeroproject

Eight hundred and twenty days ago, I created a list of a hundred and one things I wanted to complete in the next one thousand and one days. It's called the Day Zero Project. Today marks the six-month countdown in my project and I wanted to check in with a post to share what I've completed and what I still need to do, which is a lot. Yikes!

What I Read | May + FREE Summer Reading List Printable

A look back at what I read last month. #ASGbookshelf #whatIread

It's one of my favorite times of the month when I get to look back at all the books I read over the last few weeks. I had so many on my list in May and got most of them checked off. There were a lot of really good books and a lot of really bad ones. Really bad. Don't forget to read through to the end of the post to learn how to get a copy of my FREE summer reading list printable!

"Gratitude is a currency that we can mint for ourselves, and spend without fear of bankruptcy." - Fred De Witt Van Amburgh

Hiya, friends. I hope you all had a relaxing weekend because it is sure to be a busy week. I enjoyed mine and spent a lot of time thinking about the next few weeks and what they hold. The pool is finally up but the water is still a bit cold. It's been dropping down into the 50s overnight, so I don't think I'll be swimming for a few weeks yet. Until then, I'm crossing my fingers for some hot days to heat that water up. Hope you all have a great week!

Sharing lessons learned in spring 2017 with Emily Freeman. What I Learned | Spring 2017 - A Simpler Grace

The lovely Emily Freeman (author and blogger) hosts a fun writing exercise and link up so we can all share the things we've learned in that season. I joined in last season and loved the experience and I'm excited to participate again this week.

Here's what I learned this spring.

Doesn't it feel like we were just here talking about my favorite reads from last week? I think think the next few days will be a little slower because I don't have anything planned for this weekend other than lots of reading. I might sneak in a little writing time too, but I'm not going anywhere and not having anyone over so for the first time in a long time, my weekend is clear! What are you plans for the weekend?

Hello June | Goals

A monthly series tracking the goals I've set both in my personal and blogging life.

Hey, friend! Can you believe we are in June already? The year is moving so fast and my brother is already counting down the days until Christmas. That's a little overboard, in my opinion. Now that June is here, I'm setting some new goals and looking back at how last month panned out. Do you set goals every month?

#Collaboreads | A Book That Became a Movie

Sharing my thoughts about our latest #collaboreads book! #asgbookshelf

Well, this week seems to be off to a bustling start and already I'm back linking up with Rachel and Kristin for another #Collaboreads party. This month, we are talking about a book that is or will become a movie. If you've been hanging around here for the past few months, you surely know about my author crush on Roxane Gay, an amazing short story and essay writer. In 2014, she published her first novel, An Untamed State, and has also written the screenplay for the forthcoming film, which is currently in production. So excited for this one!

Oh hey, Monday! It's the last unofficial week of spring and we are going into the first holiday weekend of summer. Can you believe we are nearly halfway through 2017? Time flies when you're having fun... or when you're staying busy, in my case. Hope you all have a great week and remember to be grateful!

Dear Anxiety | A Letter in Honor of Mental Health Awareness Month

Dear Anxiety | A Letter in Honor of #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth - A Simpler Grace

Dear Anxiety,

My dear nighttime thief. It is 3 a.m. as I write this letter. You kept me up late last night, rolling under the covers, gasping for breath, not finding a comfortable spot in which to rest. Tonight will surely be a rerun of the last seven. I'm exhausted, not only from the lack of sleep but from fighting you. I have to keep fighting, though, because if I stop, I'll sink into you so deep, I may never come out.

Happy hump day, friends. It's been awhile (around Easter) since I shared a recent Bible journaling entry, so I thought I'd take advantage of the day and share one. For the last week, my anxiety has been kicking in hardcore and I have been struggling to find relief from it. May also happens to be Mental Health Awareness Month (more on this in tomorrow's letter) so this passage is even more fitting. If you struggle with anxiety like I do, these should be your go-to verses to find peace.

Creamy White Chicken Chili (Slow Cooker)

Creamy White Chicken Chili Recipe (Slow Cooker) - A Simpler Grace

There aren't many things I like better than making a big pot of soup or chili for a crowd of people, especially when the weather is crummy. Lately, we've had chilly temperatures and rain so I wanted to make a cozy meal to share with my family. They love traditional chili, but I wanted to try a new recipe I had been thinking up. Now, it's one of their favorites and they ask for it all the time!

If You and I Had Coffee | vol 12

 A conversation over coffee #coffeedates

If you and I had coffee...

We'd meet up at one of those movie-in-the-park nights where you toss a blanket on the ground, camp out under the stars and watch an old film that is being projected on the whitewashed wall of one of the local buildings. It's really more of a social event than anything. Everyone goes to chat with their neighbors from down the street instead of watching the movie, but its fun all the same. I'd order a freshly-squeezed lemonade from the concession stand because they are so good and one would be perfect right about now.

What I Read | April

A look back at what I read last month. #ASGbookshelf #whatIread

Another month passed and some more book reviews are in the record books. I didn't read as many books as I would have liked to in April, especially with Dewey's 24-hour readathon at the end of the month (I ended up sleeping through most of it) but I did read some good ones and I'm grateful for that. Did you read any good books last month?

Hello May | Goals

A monthly series tracking the goals I've set both in my personal and blogging life. #goals

Hi, friends! Here's a scary thought: we are almost halfway through 2017... Let that sink in. One of my favorite series on this blog is my goal setting posts. I love being held accountable for those little projects I say I want to do at the beginning of the month that I'd usually end up forgetting the next day. Now, I have an entire system for tracking my goals throughout the month and reminders set up every week to work on them. I'd love to know, do you set monthly goals? If so, how do you keep track of them?

I received an advance reading copy of the featured book from Blogging for Books in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own. For more info on these types of posts, please see my disclosures.

I've always enjoyed reading books about philosophy and religion - not the faith-based self-help books that line the shelves at Christian bookstores, but instead the studies and comparisons of religion. I am interested in learning about the foundations of different faiths and their theology,  When I got the opportunity to read The Great Spiritual Migration by Brian McLaren, I was really excited to take advantage of it.

#Collaboreads | Young Adult Novel - A Simpler Grace

Good day, friends. I'm back again to join Rachel and Kristin in another #Collaboreads post. This month, we are talking about a young adult novel we read this month. Other than the really popular series like Divergent and The Hunger Games, I've never been a big fan of young adult fiction before, so I was hesitant to select just any book for this month's prompt. I did happen to have a YA novel on my reading list this year, and I thought it was a great opportunity to give it a shot! Keep reading to see what my thoughts were.

"Slow down. Life is crossing the road." - Debasish Mridha

Easter Sunday used to be a major turning point when I was growing up. It was the day I could start wearing my white sandals again and it usually meant that my school wardrobe would now consist of shorts and skirts instead of jeans and sweaters. Now that these wardrobe rules no longer apply, the seasons kind of run together for me and time seems to pass by much quicker than it used to, making it even more important to try to slow down and enjoy every moment I am given.

If You and I Had Coffee | vol 11

A conversation over coffee #coffeedates

If you and I had coffee...

I'd order a frozen cappuccino - it's been warm enough for one lately - and we'd go strolling along a pebbled path through the park. The weather has been glorious, but mother nature has been a real pill lately, so it wouldn't surprise me if we jumped back into to tundra-like temperatures again before summer gets here. We'd better take advantage of these days when we get them.

"Many people lose the small joys in the hope for the big happiness." - Pearl S. Buck

I used to be one of those people who was always waiting for something big to happen. I was never satisfied with the little joys in my life because they never measured up to that big happiness I was sure would come sooner or later. In fact, most of the time, I didn't even see the little joys. I missed out on a lot. Don't be one of those people. If and/or when your big happiness comes, enjoy it then, but don't let those little joys pass you by.

Monthly Reflections | March

What I'm currently up to in life and on the blog. #currently #takingstock #monthlyreflections

Does anyone else dislike the feeling of microfiber fabric on their skin? To me, it feels like what you'd think a cat would feel if you pet them backward, from the tail to the head. I bring this up because I washed my hair about six hours ago and it's still dripping wet. (My hair is super thick and long and I don't like to use heat tools.) I was just Googling those "turbie towels" that you saw on the infomercials a decade or more ago and was disappointed when I found out they are microfiber. Guess I'll stick with drippy hair.

I'm in a weird mood, guys.
