#Collaboreads | A Book in a Series

A bookish link up with friends #collaboreads

First of all, can I just share how I wish I was staring out onto blue water like the header photo above? That, obviously, is not the case... It's Collaboreads day and that means I'm linking up with Rachel and Kristin to talk about my book in this month's prompt - a book in a series. I had several ideas about the book I wanted to read, but a few of them are waitlisted at my library, so I decided to pick up a very popular author whom I have never read anything from, James Patterson. I know, I'm way behind the game, but keep reading to see what I thought.

Happy eclipse Monday! Are you planning on watching the solar eclipse today? I will not be. I need to make a trip to Costco and the grocery story then I have a few projects I need to finish up. After all of that is done, I'll probably need a nap! Hope you enjoy your day!

Life Lessons from 10 Years of Blogging w/ Lauren @shootingstarsmag #guestpost

I'm so excited to share that I have my friend, Lauren, on the blog today. She is celebrating her TEN YEAR ANNIVERSARY in the blogosphere. Can you believe it? She is a veteran in this industry and I love all the bookish posts she shares over on Shooting Stars Mag. To help her celebrate her big milestone, I've asked her to share some of the life lessons she's learned along the way. So, without further ado, I'll turn the reigns over to Lauren!

If You and I Had Coffee | vol 15

I'm inviting you to join me for some conversation over coffee! #coffeedates

If you and I had coffee...

We'd meet up our regular little spot in town where there is never a long line at the counter and the atmosphere is cozy chic. We'd order our drinks off the hand-lettered chalkboard menu - I'd get a rooibos tea with a dash of cinnamon added to it - and we'd grab a few of the club chairs near the modern floor-to-ceiling front windows. I'd comment about how the natural lighting is perfect for an Instagram shot and we'd both playfully reach for our phones.

8 Things I Do to Overcome Writer's Block

8 things I do to beat writer's block and start writing again! 8 Things I Do to Overcome Writer's Block - A Simpler Grace

Writer's block... That dreaded phrase. Kurt Vonnegut put it best when he said, "Who is more to be pitied, a writer bound and gagged by policemen or one living in perfect freedom who has nothing more to say?" If you are a writer, whether creative or literary, you've likely experienced this condition. I know I have many times and it's never any fun but there are some things you can do to reign your brain back in. Keep reading to see the eight steps I take to beat the block and get back to my writing.

What I Read | July

A look back at what I read last month. #ASGbookshelf #whatIread

It's that time again when I review all the books I read last month. I didn't get as much reading done as I would have liked because I had a lot of other things going on, but I did manage to knock out a lot of the stack I had set aside. I also re-read several books, two of which were of the Fifty series. I see you rolling your eyes and I'm with you on that. I had a friend recently try to convince me how good the books were and I promised I'd give them another read... Let's just say my opinion of them was less favorable this time around than my first go. Hehe! I'd love to know, what are you reading this month?

Hello August | Goals

I'm sharing my goals for August and reviewing how I did in July. #goals

Hellloooooooo August! I don't know about you, but July was a frustrating month for me. Nothing seemed to go right and I couldn't catch a break. I'm excited for the new month and, I can't lie, I'm getting really excited for fall to get here. This might prove how much of a nerdy foodie I am, but I actually caught myself daydreaming about Thanksgiving dinner the other day. It's my favorite holiday and this year, it also happens to be my birthday. Also, who gets excited when all the school supplies are on display at every store?

July is almost out the door and August crept up on us very quickly, didn't it? This month has been a roller coaster ride with lots of frustrations and celebrations alike. I can't wait to see what next month holds, but for the time being, let's take a look back at the last few weeks and recap what I've been up to.

#Collaboreads | A Summer Read

I'm sharing about a #summer book in this month's #collaboreads post!

Last month got away from me and I totally missed the Collaboreads post. I was so upset about it but circled it on my calendar for this month so I wouldn't miss it again. This time around, we chose books that had to do with summer. I'm not usually the type of reader who chooses lighter "beach reads" during summertime. My reading list is filled with pretty heavy stuff, but I decided to break free from my reading list for this one and chose what I thought would be a summer thriller.... Keep reading to see what I thought of the book I chose for Collaboreads. (*denotes affiliate link)

If You and I Had Coffee | vol 14

 A conversation over coffee #coffeedates

If you and I had coffee...

We'd meet up in a little French bistro down on the corner in town and I'd order une noisette and a croissant because, when in France... We'd settle in a cozy table in front of the boutique window, listen to the accordion music playing in the background and laugh about how it reminded us of the episode of Sex and the City when Carrie was in France with Aleksandr Petrovsky and was feeding pastries to the mastiff in the cafĂ©.

A monthly series tracking the goals I've set both in my personal and blogging life.

Well, hello July. It seems like just yesterday, it was the holiday season and now here we are in the middle of the year and soon, we'll be counting down the days until the holidays yet again. Hey friends. I've been MIA for a little while but wanted to come back and wrap up the month in this post since I haven't been sharing anything here on the blog or on social media. First, I wanted to thank everyone who has emailed and messaged me with encouragement. It's been a tough month and I'm really grateful to have so many amazing friends who have been keeping tabs on me. You guys are the best. I'm hoping to be back in July with a normal posting schedule, but for now, I'm taking things one day at a time and we'll see how it goes. Hope you have had a great June!

 A conversation over coffee #coffeedates
If you and I had coffee...

We'd make up a couple of glasses of strong iced cafe and take them out to sit next to the pool. It's been hot outside lately and the breeze is perfect under the big canopy umbrella. We could sit on the edge of the deck and dangle our feet in the water for a bit or jump right in and grab a float to recline on. Whatever we choose, catching some Vitamin D rays will be a great way to spend the day.

The pool is finally up but the water is still a bit cold. It's been dropping down into the 50s overnight, so I don't think I'll be swimming for a few weeks yet. Sharing my thoughts about our latest #collaboreads book! #asgbookshelf

Well, this week seems to be off to a bustling start and already I'm back linking up with Rachel and Kristin for another #Collaboreads party. If you've been hanging around here for the past few months, you surely know about my author crush on Roxane Gay, an amazing short story and essay writer. Dear Anxiety | A Letter in Honor of #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth - A Simpler Grace

Dear Anxiety,

My dear nighttime thief. It is 3 a.m. as I write this letter. You kept me up late last night, rolling under the covers, gasping for breath, not finding a comfortable spot in which to rest. Tonight will surely be a rerun of the last seven. I'm exhausted, not only from the lack of sleep but from fighting you. I have to keep fighting, though, because if I stop, I'll sink into you so deep, I may never come out.

Happy hump day, friends. It's been awhile (around Easter) since I shared a recent Bible journaling entry, so I thought I'd take advantage of the day and share one. For the last week, my anxiety has been kicking in hardcore and I have been struggling to find relief from it. May also happens to be Mental Health Awareness Month (more on this in tomorrow's letter) so this passage is even more fitting. If You and I Had Coffee | vol 12

 A conversation over coffee #coffeedates

If you and I had coffee...

We'd meet up at one of those movie-in-the-park nights where you toss a blanket on the ground, camp out under the stars and watch an old film that is being projected on the whitewashed wall of one of the local buildings. It's really more of a social event than anything. Everyone goes to chat with their neighbors from down the street instead of watching the movie, but its fun all the same. I'd order a freshly-squeezed lemonade from the concession stand because they are so good and one would be perfect right about now.
