Monthly Reflections | January

What I'm currently up to in life and on the blog. #currently #takingstock #monthlyreflections - Monthly Reflections | January - A Simpler Grace

Wow! We've officially made it through the first month of 2017 and we are moving way too fast!

This month started the implementation of a few changes I wanted to incorporate in how I focus and follow up on my One Little Word for the year. If you remember correctly, my word is SHARE, so each month, I'll have a new Bible verse that somehow relates to this word that I can meditate on over the month while I allow it to be my guiding principle.

Simple Gratitude | 62

Today I'm sharing my #gratefulheart on the blog #gratitude #feelingthankful

"In life, one has a choice to take one of two paths; to wait for some special day - or to celebrate each special day." - Rasheed Ogunlaru

Well, happy Monday, friends. It's been one of those perfectly relaxing weekends. How was it for you?
I'm still in a little bit of disbelief that we are going to be in February later this week, but I'll be spending the next few days preparing for the new month. Here's to a busy and productive week!

We are now a full month into the new year and spring cleaning season will be here before we know it! While I have high hopes to rid the entire house of all those dust bunnies and cat hair that lurks in every corner imaginable... can I be real with y'all for a minute? I'm a busy gal. Between work and family and having a life, I really don't have a whole lot of time to clean up around here.

Handwritten letters are a lost art form and today I'm sharing a project I'm working on to bring this art back to life. - Par Avion | The Art of the Handwritten Letter

When I was in junior high, I used to go to a summer camp in upstate New York, hundreds of miles away from home. I don't remember most of the people I met at camp, except this one girl. Jennifer was a little older than me and she spent her mid-morning quiet time up in her bunk, writing letters to her family and friends. She had this beautiful, handmade paper that she wrote on and her penmanship was impeccable - all perfectly spaced lower-case letters that leaned slightly to the right.

"Wherever there is a human being, there is an opportunity for kindness." - Lucius Annaeus Seneca

Hey! Whatdya know? It's Friday!

I don't know about you, but the last week has been a LONG one and I'm looking forward to the weekend. What are your plans for the next few days? We aren't supposed to have good weather, so I plan on staying in and doing some painting. Whatever you end up doing, I hope you have a great one!

#Collaboreads | Same Name

A bookish linkup with friends - #Collaboreads | Same Name - A Simpler Grace #asgbookshelf

We're back again with another #Collaboreads linkup and this month, we had to choose a book by an author with the same first name as us. I didn't think I'd find one by someone named "Lecy", so I went with my legal first name, Elisabeth, and boy, I was pleased with the result. Below is my review for Elisabeth Egan's A Window Opens.

Dear Little Girl | A Letter to My Nieces

Dear Little Girl | A Letter to My Nieces - A Simpler Grace

This letter is dedicated to one of my two nieces, who turns seven years old today.

Dear Little Girl,

Your mom and I grew up sharing the same closet and bathroom when we were little. I can remember braiding her hair and painting her nails and playing together with our dolls and our easy-bake oven. I remember choreographing dance routines to the soundtrack of Dirty Dancing and making everyone in our family turn in their tickets made of construction paper and crayon so they could watch our performance. I remember waking up in the middle of the night and feeling her curled up in bed next to me after she'd had a bad dream. I remember those early days of our childhood. They were magical.

Soft Pretzel Bites with Beer Cheese & Honey Mustard Dipping Sauces

Recipes for the championship game! #foodiefootballfans Soft Pretzel Bites with Beer Cheese & Honey Mustard Dipping Sauces - A Simpler Grace

Note: This post is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by the National Football League (NFL) or any of its teams. All opinions and views expressed on our blogs are our own, not that of the NFL and/or any of its 32 teams. Any team names, logos or other symbols referenced are properties of their respective organizations. We are just big fans - and we want to share our love for our teams, the game and the food that brings us all together on game day.

With the football season coming to a close, it's time to start thinking about championship game parties and the recipes we will make for them! In celebration, I've joined up with a group of bloggers from all over the country - all of whom are big football fans! - in one final collaboration to bring you football-inspired recipes this season. In August, we shared our favorite tailgating recipes and we met up again in October to share more than 60 team-inspired recipe ideas for celebrating on game day. Today, we are sharing our favorite Superbowl snacks. Click on their links below to join in!

I also wanted to give a big shout out to Susannah from Feast + West and Erin from The Speckled Palate for coordinating this fun blogger collaboration. It took so much time and effort for them to organize and pull this three-post series off with over sixty food bloggers! You gals rock!!

Self Image | 2017

One's conception of oneself - Self Image | 2017 - A Simpler Grace

Self Image is a video series originally created by YouTuber Eric Schneider, Since then, many other creators have made similar videos or blog posts defining who they are at the beginning of every year. I fell in love with this project idea and wanted to use it as a way to embrace all the qualities, both good and bad, that make up who I am, and hopefully, from composing this list, I'll be able to weave a little more compassion and self-love into my life. Continue reading below to learn about a project I'm working on to practice a little more self-love in 2017.

If You and I Had Coffee | vol 8

A conversation over coffee #coffeedates- If You and I Had Coffee | vol 8 - A Simpler Grace

If you and I had coffee...

We'd meet up at the local diner and grab a cozy booth away from the blustery draft of the front door. We'd order our brew - I would drink it black today - and a slice of apple pie (to split, because #resolutions) although we might ask for an extra scoop of vanilla ice cream, à la carte. From my bag, I'd pull out a little box for you. Inside would be a few of my homemade hot chocolate truffles because I so adore making sweet treats for my friends.

Reading Challenges for 2017 | The List

My master reading list for 2016 - Reading Challenges for 2017 | The List - A Simpler Grace

Well, it's that time of year again when I get to plan out my reading challenges for 2017! One of my goals this year was to broaden my spectrum by reading more books written by people of color and on subjects or genres that I don't normally read. This year, it's all about diversification.

Three Ways to Be More Productive Right Now - A Simpler Grace #productivity #livingwell

Perhaps you are still stuck in holiday mode. Or maybe you have problems when the days are shorter. Whatever the reasoning is, we all struggle with productivity from time to time. We become easily distracted with everything going on around us and make excuse after excuse for why we can't accomplish what we need to. You might think productivity is achieved over a long period of time, after changing habits and routines, but that isn't the case. Today, I'm going to share three things you can do right now that will immediately increase your productivity. Read on to learn more.

Sharing my #gratefulheart this first Monday of the #newyear - Simple Gratitude | 58 - A Simpler Grace

We are officially in the first work week of the new year. How are you feeling this morning? Tired and hungover or pumped and ready to tackle this new month and all it holds? I'll admit, I'm feeling a little tired from all the holiday hustle of the last few weeks but I'm not going to let that stop me from getting things done.

Hello January | Goals

Goal setting for January - A Simpler Grace #goals #anintentional2017

Happy New Year and hello 2017! In this new year, I'm going to focus on being more intentional in my goal-setting and make an effort to take the steps necessary to meet all my goals every month. I'm also going to try to integrate a Bible verse and my One Little Word into my goal setting in some way each month. So, there are going to be a few little changes in how I do these posts, but I'm excited for what will come out of them!
