Monthly Reflections | August

What I'm currently up to in life and on the blog. #currently #takingstock #monthlyreflections

Well, the month is over and I feel indifferent about it. There were highs and lows and although it was a tough month for me physically, professionally, it wasn't that bad. I was in and out of the hospital having a lot of testing done and slept a good portion of the month away, but I read a lot of books too. There was the eclipse and then there was Harvey. August was full of lots of other things too, but I must say, I'm glad September is here.

Go Big or Go Home

The secret to being an overachiever in an underachieving world. Go Big or Go Home - A Simpler Grace

I was born an overachiever. It's in my blood. Woven into my DNA. I grew up before the days of participation trophies, the days when you had to work hard for what you wanted. I have a type-A personality and I thrive on competition. So what's a gal like me to do in this new world of underachieving?

#Collaboreads | A Book in a Series

A bookish link up with friends #collaboreads

First of all, can I just share how I wish I was staring out onto blue water like the header photo above? That, obviously, is not the case... It's Collaboreads day and that means I'm linking up with Rachel and Kristin to talk about my book in this month's prompt - a book in a series. I had several ideas about the book I wanted to read, but a few of them are waitlisted at my library, so I decided to pick up a very popular author whom I have never read anything from, James Patterson. I know, I'm way behind the game, but keep reading to see what I thought.

"Keep your face to the sun and you will never see the shadows." - Helen Keller

Happy eclipse Monday! Are you planning on watching the solar eclipse today? I will not be. I need to make a trip to Costco and the grocery story then I have a few projects I need to finish up. After all of that is done, I'll probably need a nap! Hope you enjoy your day!

If You and I Had Coffee | vol 15

I'm inviting you to join me for some conversation over coffee! #coffeedates

If you and I had coffee...

We'd meet up our regular little spot in town where there is never a long line at the counter and the atmosphere is cozy chic. We'd order our drinks off the hand-lettered chalkboard menu - I'd get a rooibos tea with a dash of cinnamon added to it - and we'd grab a few of the club chairs near the modern floor-to-ceiling front windows. I'd comment about how the natural lighting is perfect for an Instagram shot and we'd both playfully reach for our phones.

8 Things I Do to Overcome Writer's Block

8 things I do to beat writer's block and start writing again! 8 Things I Do to Overcome Writer's Block - A Simpler Grace

Writer's block... That dreaded phrase. Kurt Vonnegut put it best when he said, "Who is more to be pitied, a writer bound and gagged by policemen or one living in perfect freedom who has nothing more to say?" If you are a writer, whether creative or literary, you've likely experienced this condition. I know I have many times and it's never any fun but there are some things you can do to reign your brain back in. Keep reading to see the eight steps I take to beat the block and get back to my writing.

What I Read | July

A look back at what I read last month. #ASGbookshelf #whatIread

It's that time again when I review all the books I read last month. I didn't get as much reading done as I would have liked because I had a lot of other things going on, but I did manage to knock out a lot of the stack I had set aside. I also re-read several books, two of which were of the Fifty series. I see you rolling your eyes and I'm with you on that. I had a friend recently try to convince me how good the books were and I promised I'd give them another read... Let's just say my opinion of them was less favorable this time around than my first go. Hehe! I'd love to know, what are you reading this month?

Happy Monday. I'm actually feeling excited to jump into this week. I have a lot to do but I'm motivated and can't wait to get some tasks marked off my list. But first, I'd love to know, what is one highlight from your week that you are grateful for?

Hello August | Goals

I'm sharing my goals for August and reviewing how I did in July. #goals

Hellloooooooo August! I don't know about you, but July was a frustrating month for me. Nothing seemed to go right and I couldn't catch a break. I'm excited for the new month and, I can't lie, I'm getting really excited for fall to get here. This might prove how much of a nerdy foodie I am, but I actually caught myself daydreaming about Thanksgiving dinner the other day. It's my favorite holiday and this year, it also happens to be my birthday. Also, who gets excited when all the school supplies are on display at every store?
