Simple Gratitude | 99

Today I'm sharing my #gratefulheart on the blog #gratitude #feelingthankful

It's Monday and usually, I'd be on my second cup of something caffeinated by now, but I already have a pep in my step this morning. Call it a good weekend or say it's the holiday week ahead. Whatever it may be, I ain't mad at it! (Gosh, I feel weird saying that.)

I'm signing out of all social media apps this afternoon so I can get some work done on my NaNoWriMo project, catch up on blog posts and write a few new freelance and guest post pieces. I've got so much motivation and new ideas and I want to do all the things right now. :) Hope you have a great Monday!

This week, I'm grateful for:
  • Hope for African elephants. Last week, 45 opened a floodgate. He overturned a ruling from the previous administration that banned big game hunters from bringing their trophies into the United States. This action would open the way for more hunters to travel to Africa (specifically Zimbabwe and Zambia) with the intention of hunting and killing animals like elephants, rhinos, lions, and others, so they could bring their trophies home. As soon as conservationists got wind of this, they pounced, stating that many of these animals are on endangered species lists, with population numbers dropping for several species. Thankfully, 45 put this decision on hold so he could review conservation figures before he made a final decision. That decision is expected later this week. This isn't a full win, but the fact that he is willing to press pause and look at some facts is a silver lining.
  • It's my birthday week! I don't usually make a big deal about my birthday, but the first week of December will mark seven years from the day I went into a coma and nearly lost my life. Today, I am grateful that I am alive and able to celebrate these birthdays and I'm also grateful for the doctor who made that possible.
  • New books to read. Happy mail from publishers will always be something I get excited about. This girl can never have enough books.
  • Getting in and out of the urgent care in five minutes. Last week, I felt a sinus infection coming on and no matter what I tried to do to prevent it, it kicked the "no vacancy" sign away and set up camp in my head. Luckily, my local urgent care was completely empty when I drove by this weekend, so I stopped in and saw a P.A. in under five minutes.
  • Opportunities to work with my favorite sponsors. In addition to getting new books in the mail this week, I also got some products from one of my favorite sponsors, Bona Floor Care. I worked with them at the beginning of the year and I love their hardwood floor cleaning products. They obviously knew I was in the mood to clean my floors before the holidays and sent another big box of goodies. I'll be sharing a full post about why I adore them on the blog next week.

What are you grateful for today?

  2. Oh my goodness... I don’t think I know the story behind your coma :( I’m so glad you were in great hands and that you lived to tell the tale. I imagine it must be a practice in gratitude to pass that anniversary each year <3 glad, too, that you were able to get immediate help at one of those walk-in clinics recently.

I have hope for the elephants in Africa, too. I am dumbfounded that anyone would want to put their lives at risk for the sake of a friggin trophy, but I digress.

Sending much love, and hope you have a great short pre-Thanksgiving week :)

  3. Happy Birthday week - you should definitely celebrate another year! :) I'm really glad he put a pause on the trophy decision. It needs to stay the way it is, because people hunting game just for the trophy is sickening to me.

  9. Happy Birthday! This is the first I've heard of your past medical situation. Experiences like that give us perspective on life. I'm glad you pulled through okay. I once faced death lying on the road after a motorcycle accident; I've been grateful every day since then simply for the chance to be alive.
