Monthly Reflections | December

Wrapping up the month and sharing what I've been up to in life and on the blog. What is your favorite moment of December? #currently
I feel like it's been forever since I've done one of these posts, but in reality, it's only been two months. I did miss sharing my November recap, but when I sat down to write, it just didn't happen. My mind was far too distracted to concentrate on anything creative. That said, I'm glad I planted my ass in front of my laptop and told myself I wasn't allowed to move until this post was done. Yay, progress.

What I Read | November

A look back at what I read last month. #ASGbookshelf #whatIread

I'm a few weeks behind in posting this, but I've finally caught up with my November book reviews. Since it's the holiday season and life has been crazy, I didn't read as many books as I would have liked, but I did find some great books. Only one more month to complete my 2018 master reading list. Can I do it? Stay tuned.

If You and I Had Coffee | vol 30

Join me for a conversation over coffee? #coffeedates

If you and I had coffee...

We'd meet up at the chain coffee and pastry shop adjacent to the local mall. We both still have some holiday shopping we need to finish up before complete retail chaos breaks out, the week before Christmas. We retrieve our beverages from the service counter and scoot into a cozy corner booth, far from the door and the icy chill in the air. A light December snow is blanketing the parking lot outside.

A Creative Approach to Your Quiet Time | Ellie Claire Art Journals

Taking a creative approach to your quiet time with #ellieclairegifts interactive art journals. #sponsored

*Post sponsored by Ellie Claire/Worthy Publishing.*

It's only been in the last few years that I've gotten into Bible journaling and haven't done a lot of it yet, but I love the idea of incorporating elaborate hand-lettered quotes or illustrations into my quiet time. What's held me back from jumping into a project with both feet is the fear of messing up and not having the pages of my Bible as pretty as they could be. That's why I was so excited to join Worthy Publishing in introducing a few of their Ellie Claire interactive art journals.

What I Read | October

A look back at what I read last month. #ASGbookshelf #whatIread

I love those months when I look back and realize how many good books I've read. So good and some that really surprised me. In October, I managed to (finally) close out some that I've been working on all year and pick up a few that have been on my TBR for years! It was a good month on the bookshelf. :)

Autumn is finally in full swing around these parts. It's happening about a month late, but the streets are lined in bright hues and crunchy footsteps are signaling the transition to the colder months and I. Am. Here. For. It.

Happy Friday, friends! We flipped another page on the calendar this week (only one more left in 2018!) and I'm settling into November nicely. It's been a busy week, but a nice, slow kind of busy. I'm working on my NaNoWriMo project and trying to find a balance between work and relaxation this month. Hope you have a great week and if you are in the States, don't forget to vote on Tuesday!

Monthly Reflections | October

Wrapping up the month and sharing what I've been up to in life and on the blog. What is your favorite moment of October? #currently

Another month gone by and it seems like I'm stuck in a cycle of perpetual frustration. I know for a fact that I'm not the only one who has been in a rut and feeling depressed or apathetic lately. It's been a hard year for so many people. After a lot of reflection, I realize I might be doing a lot of damage by placing so many expectations - and unrealistic ones, at that - on myself. Maybe you are too?

Five Things | A Brain Dump for an Anxious Mind

Five things to do when you have an anxious mind. #fivethings

If you've ever had anxiety, you know how tiring it can be. You often tend to overthink things and an overactive brain can increase stress levels and make you feel even worse. I have generalized anxiety and a panic disorder as well as situational anxiety. In other words, my mind runs at an anxious baseline but it gets worse when I'm worried about a specific thing or event like a social gathering with people I don't know.

It feels like it's been a while since I've done one of these posts, so I'm jumping in today with some of the best the internet had to offer this week - and maybe last week as well. I don't know about you, but I am tired of turning on the tv and seeing nothing but politicians lying and mudslinging, so I've been trying to fill my inbox up with positive stories that make me smile. I hope that by sharing them with you, I'll be adding a little light to your world too. Enjoy your weekend, friends!

If you and I had coffee...

We'd meet up at a local farm to visit the pumpkin patch. They have a great little coffee stand there in the farm market and we'd order our drinks then we'd hitch a ride on the next hay wagon and head out to the fields. We'd enjoy the beautiful cool day while sipping our steaming beverages as we bounce along through fields of apple trees coming near the end of their season.

Pumpkin Snickerdoodle Ice Cream Sandwiches

I'm sharing my recipe for #pumpkin #snickerdoodle #icecream sandwiches on the blog today!
As soon as September rolls around, I start craving pumpkin. By October, it's a necessity. So, I couldn't resist trying a new recipe this month and combining a few of my favorite things - pumpkin, snickerdoodles, and ice cream - in one of the best ice cream sandwiches I've ever had.

What I Read | September

A look back at what I read last month. #ASGbookshelf #whatIread
I felt so off my game when it came to reading this month. Reading is one of my favorite hobbies and because I was busy with other things, I didn't have time to pick up all the books I wanted to get through. I am giving myself grace though because life happens and I need to roll with the punches, but I love my books, yo! What book did you love in September?

Hello October | Goals for Quarter 4 + A Mood Board

I'm starting the month with some good intentions and a few goals. What is a goal you've set for this month? #goals #goalsetting

In the past, my goal setting posts have been last-minute efforts, following the same generic template and essentially listing the same ten goals I've had all year. When I revamped the post this summer and switched to doing these on a quarterly basis instead of every month, I started putting more thought into the posts, but also the goals themselves.

Monthly Reflections | September

Wrapping up the month and sharing what I've been up to in life and on the blog. What is your favorite moment of September? #currently

Usually, September is one of my favorite months. This year, it was not so great. I spent most of it recovering from some yucky health stuff and dealing with the loss of my grandmother but also working through some grief for things that I shouldn't still be holding on to. But I can't complain. There were good moments this month as well, along with some opportunities to learn and grow.

I was thinking to myself this week that there are so many things on my bucket list that I have yet to accomplish. These are big things and small. Like taking a trip to Alaska to witness the Northern Lights with my very own eyes, and running (but more like walking) a 5k. As I pondered all the excuses I've made for not completing things on my ever-growing list, I realized that I've been waiting for permission to do them. Whose? I'm not sure.

Five Things | What's Soothing My Soul Right Now

Five things about what's soothing my soul right now. #fivethings

For what feels like the longest summer, I've been in a sort of transitional period. It's been one of those seasons of life that makes me feel anxious. Like I'm waiting for something to happen, but we all know how I struggle with patience. I keep going back to Lara Casey's message about the seasons and how we need to be intentional in all four - stillness, growth, hard work, and rest - but it's so hard. I want the hard work and growth all the time!

I'm sharing my #gratefulheart on the blog. What are you grateful for today? #gratitude #feelingthankful

Last week and the weekend was a whirlwind filled with lots of tears, strolls down memory lane, hurricane scares, impromptu family meals, and all the emotional things. So many times in the last few months, I've thought about discontinuing these posts, feeling that they are too redundant and not interesting enough for a lot of people to read. Then, things like the death of a loved one happen, and I'm reminded that even in the midst of loss, there are so many things to be grateful for. And so we continue on.

If you and I had coffee...

We'd meet up at the local park with coffees in hand. There's this big square in the middle with gardens and winding pathways, and we'd choose a bench among the late summer blooms to have our chat. The air would be warm but a cool breeze would hint to the fact that fall was on the way, and we'd talk about how excited we were for sweater weather to arrive at long last.

I had such a fun time creating a mood board for August, I thought I would do it every month. If so, where do you find your inspiration?

What I Read | August (+ FREE Fall Reading List Printable)

A look back at what I read last month. #ASGbookshelf #whatIread

It was a quiet month on the bookshelf. I only read about half of what I usually consume, but it was nice to slow down and enjoy what I was reading. I was excited because there were so many wonderful books on this month's list, including two about dogs. I've been on an animal kick lately, so take that as a hint of more to come in the following weeks.

And just like that, September is here. The unofficial start to fall brings with it the feeling of a fresh start, and I have never felt more needing of one than this year. I've loved this particular season change since I was a young girl. I remember the first few weeks of school, where the early mornings were crisp and the dew-covered grass would stick to my shoes, making them squeak as I walked to the bus stop. The days would be comfortably warm, but the nights would introduce a slight chill to the air, turning the leaves to a rich palette of burgundy, auburn, and gold. I am so ready for you, fall.

What I Learned | Summer 2018

Today I'm sharing the lessons I learned this summer. #whatilearned
Once again, it's time to join Emily Freeman in sharing what we learned this season. It's not been an easy summer, but there are many lessons to be learned, even when the going is tough. I don't know if it's because I'm older or busier, but the seasons seem to be whipping by at lightning speed. I have to keep a little note on my phone to keep track of these little lessons as the weeks go by, and this practice has served as a reminder of all the things I have to be grateful for, hard lessons included.

Monthly Reflections | August

Wrapping up the month and sharing what I've been up to in life and on the blog. What is your favorite moment of August? #currently
Since pulling the plug on my online life earlier this month, I've spent the last several weeks regrouping, praying, reading, studying, and resting both my tired body and restless mind. From one side, a chronic case of mono hit me hard, knocking me off my feet with exhaustion, while a bad bout of depression swept in quickly after. You know that saying "when it rains, it pours"? It's felt like hurricane season over here.

It's been a hard week. I am definitely going through a stormy season in my life and am learning some big and difficult lessons in it. Before this year, this kind of emotional weather would probably have made me want to run in the other direction, but I'm trying to practice patience, lean into the pain, and wait for the sun to shine again. It's not easy, but I have faith that if I keep trying, something good will come out of it eventually.

Happy Friday, friends. I'm sitting down to send off this post before letting Adriene kick my butt with day 10 of another month-long of yoga. Over the last year, I've come to realize that I am the type of person who functions best when I have a morning routine that doesn't change much, save for the things I can't control. I'm not one of those gals who can work out three times a week and feel like I'm making any progress. I enjoy getting my ass kicked every morning because it makes me feel like I can be productive the rest of the day. How about you? Are you a routine person or a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants person?

What I Read | July

A look back at what I read last month. #ASGbookshelf #whatIread
It was quite an interesting month, as far as los libros are concerned. I started the month off feeling very underwhelmed by what I was reading. I wasn't connecting with anything and grew bored quickly. Then, about halfway through July, things started looking up. I picked up a new stack of books and was thrilled with them all. This stack included a few children's books, a book about personality types, and my two highlighted reads for the month.

This summer has been feeling drab, so I wanted to do something fun to spark a little inspiration and creativity in my life. What better way than with a mood board? I created a mood board template and searched the rabbit holes of Pinterest for some images that were speaking to me and this is what I see for the month of August.

Monthly Reflections | July

Wrapping up the month and sharing what I've been up to in life and on the blog. What is your favorite moment of July? #currently
We are now well into the second half of the year. Yikes! I won't make another cliche comment about how fast time is going. I'm sure we are all thinking the same thing. What I will say is this. Because there are just five months left in 2018, I'm trying to be really intentional about how I use my time. I have a lot of things I want to accomplish and big changes coming early next year, so I need to sop up every ounce of time to prepare myself for what's to come. What intentions are you setting for August and the remainder of 2018?

As the month of July comes to a close, I find myself thinking about the new season ahead. Even though summer is not yet over, I often think of August as the beginning of a new season, the turning of a leaf, as students return to school and the slow pace of summertime winds down. I've been thinking about the last seven months of 2018 and all the things I have to be grateful for, but also about the future and what it might hold. I'm going into this new month with purpose and drive. How are you embracing the new month?

Confessions of an Introvert | vol 1

The secret thoughts of someone who prefers to be alone. #introvertproblems
It's no secret that I have the social graces of a hermit crab. I tend to spend more time inside my shell, doing my own thing, than out interacting with the public. Over the years, I have come to fully accept my introverted personality, even when it means that I'm awkward in social situations, I don't engage in small talk, and there are very few people who are close enough to know intimate details about me.

It's been a long time since I've been excited about a Monday. It was a great weekend - one where I unplugged my electronics for most of it - and enjoyed time alone and with my family. Today would have been my brother's 32nd birthday, so everyone got together to do lunch and hang out. Most of my siblings are moving a little further away, so it's so sweet to be able to get everyone together under one roof. There is a chance that I'll be moving to Georgia this winter, so I'm trying to soak up every last drop of family time. Don't ever take it for granted, friends.

Five Things | What I Love About Summer

Five things about my love affair with summertime. #fivethings

I have a love-hate relationship with summer. It's a combination of the insufferable heat and humidity of the Mid-Atlantic region where I've spent my entire life, and the mental furlough I feel among the students breaking from school and neighbors dawdling home from vacation. The repose is too much for this type-A, in-the-saddle kind of gal.
