Simple Gratitude | 115

I'm sharing my #gratefulheart on the blog. What are you grateful for today? #gratitude #feelingthankful

"I've learned that it is not what I have in my life, but who I have in my life that counts." - unknown

As I've gotten older, I've become less dependent on owning stuff and more interested in collecting memories and this has been ringing true even more now in the age of social media. I relish my weekends when I can shut my phone off and spend time with the people I love. Not only do I find that I'm not drowning in depressing news updates and the constant buzz that comes with being on any of these social sites, but I find that I'm able to better understand what my priorities need to be in life. Because of the shift in my "most important things to spend time on" list, lately, life has been good.

This week, I'm grateful for:
  • Time with my boys. I was with the man this weekend and got to meet his kids - seven-year-old twin boys - for the first time. Oh, my heart! We spent the last few days playing video games and attending birthday parties and Boy Scouts pinewood derby finals and I have absolutely loved getting to know these little men. Their father is an amazing man and an awesome role model, so it's no wonder why these boys are such smart, respectful, fun-loving, and caring kids. I am so blessed to have these three guys in my life. <3
  • Books that make me react in the first few chapters. This week, I started reading a book that I didn't think I'd like, but after reading two chapters, I was glued to the pages. I love being surprised by books, especially ones I've incorrectly judged by the covers.
  • Working smart and getting ahead. Because I knew I was going to be away for the weekend, I buckled down last week and got all my weekend stuff done before I signed off on Friday morning. Now I'm beginning to wonder why I ever picked up the habit of working every weekend. I love the feeling of getting everything done and being able to relax for a few days.
  • Motivation to make the next few months count. I'm setting a few (very) big personal goals for the immediate future, so I'm kicking things into high gear to see if I can make some stuff happen before the deadline I've set for myself. I'm not ready to share details about this little project of mine, but hopefully, in the near future, I can update with some progress I've made.
  • Mindfulness, deep breathing, and meditation. Along with my yoga and other self-care practices, I've been diving deep into mindfulness and learning how to control my breath to help with pain management, acute anxiety attacks and just to quiet all the darn noise in my brain, which has been overactive lately. There really is a lot of power in how you speak to yourself through your inner voice and how calming it can be when you harness that power for the good. I will be sharing a post about this in detail soon, so keep an eye out for that if you're interested in the self-care practices I've adopted.

What are you grateful for today?

  1. Weekends with good company and no social media really are some of the best! After a rough end to my week last week, I spent a lot of time with my boyfriend and let myself step away from social media (for the most part) and it was really nice to take some time away for a few days and collect myself.

  3. Would absolutely love to know what methods you are using to quiet the voices in your head. I’ve been struggling a lot with anxiety lately; I hate that there never is a rhyme or reason sometimes and that the crippling fear can come out of nowhere, but mindfulness practices and deep breathing are so helpful in situations like these <3

Yay to meeting and getting along with your bf’s kiddos!! That’s so important and sounds as though you all had a wonderful weekend getting to know each other.

Love a good book like that, too. One that I never want to put down, been a while and always looking for good recommendations!

Hope you have a great week momma!!

  7. My fiance! His kindness never ends and I am so thankful for all he does :) I'm also thankful for my education and career because I've learned so much about what I'm passionate about and what I believe in from these two things.

  11. I'm sorry to hear you had a rough week, but glad you have someone to retreat with. I don't know why more people don't take a few days away from social media. It definitely does a body and a mind good to step back from the scrolling! Hope you are having a better week, friend! <3

  12. It's funny how it works out. I never had the overwhelming urge to have children when I was married before, but always knew that if I did, I would definitely be a boy mom. I wouldn't trade it for the world! :)
