If You and I Had Coffee | vol 25

Join me for a conversation over coffee? #coffeedates

If you and I had coffee...

I'd meet you at an outdoor cafe in town. We'd snatch a table on the corner of the big patio under the ivy-covered trellis, and we'd both agree to the daily special when the server suggested the customer favorite to us. We'd enjoy the warmth of the sunshine, but smell the rain in the air and would cross our fingers that the poor weather would hold off until later in the day. Gotta love those pop-up June thunderstorms.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd ask you what your favorite piece in your wardrobe was this season. I'd tell you that I've been looking for some casual shorts that I could wear around the house for about two years now and I finally found these. They are french terry and are super comfortable. I sleep in them. I clean in them. I go to the pool in them. I run errands in them. They are seriously the best addition to my summer capsule. I'm ordering a few more in other colors because I see myself living in them this season.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd ask you what you've been reading lately. I'd tell you that I haven't read many books that I was impressed with this month, but I'm hopeful for the next two weeks. I just looked at my total count for the year and I've hit one hundred and thirteen books in 2018. My goal is one hundred and fifty for the year, but I think I might need to raise this because I have so many more books on my to-read list. I wonder, how do you choose what to read next? Do you take recommendations from friends, or do you follow a list, or just choose something that catches your eye at the bookstore?

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that it has been raining here for nearly two months straight. I think we've had a handful of party sunny days since the beginning of spring and we're at such a risk of flash flooding, it's scary. I drove over both the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers this weekend and they are still at crest-level with more warnings for the entire area to get another several inches of rain this week. I'd tell you that I'm starting to consider the idea of building an ark or at least buying a boat.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd ask you what your favorite skincare brands were and if you could recommend a good eye makeup remover. I'd tell you that I'm in the process of switching up my skincare routine (again) and have struggled to find a good eye makeup remover that actually takes off makeup without having to scrub your eyes too hard and pulling eyelashes out. I used to love Mary Kay's oil-free makeup remover, but the last time I tried it, it left me feeling super greasy, so I think they must have changed the formula. This leaves me at square one and looking for a new brand to try. Boo hoo.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that I'm reviewing the goals I set for 2018 and also thinking about how my one little word has faired in the first part of the year. I chose "hustle" as my word for 2018, and while I still love the idea and have done a lot of hustling when it comes to meeting some of the big goals I had made, I'm also feeling the need to slow down and savor the little moments more. My little heart has been going through a tug of war trying to balance these desires and I'm thinking about trying a different approach to my hustle in the second half of the year. Did you choose a word for the year? What kind of progress have you done in pursuit of your word or goals you set for 2018?

If you and I had coffee...

We'd hear the pitter patter of raindrops falling on the trellis above us and know it was time to wrap up. After finishing the last sip of our drinks, I'd quickly give you a hug and promise to see you, same time next month, before dashing from the quickly approaching storm.

What would you like to chat about over coffee?

Every second week of the month, we gather together with our favorite hot beverages and catch up. Care to join us?

  1. I'd love to have coffee with you on a rainy day, I hope wherever you are it's a litte cold, so you can wear fashionable chunky sweaters and enjoy it. I bet it's probably getting old at this point since it's been two months! I highly suggest using straight up coconut oil to remove your makeup, even your eye makeup. Put a dab of coconut oil on your palms, rub it down to liquid and apply directly to your face. I put it on my eyelids and swipe DOWN, and then gently swipe it off with tissue paper. Then I just wash my face! Best of look boo!

  2. I love this! Coffee dates are so much fun. I am impressed by 113 books, way to go! I think my goal was 24 and I am currently at 24 books. My favorite thus far is probably Girl, wash your face by Rachel Hollis. Do you follow the Modern Mrs Darcy Blog? She has great book recommendations.

  3. Coffee on a rainy day sounds so nice!! It has been very sunny and hot here in TX. However, this weekend we are said to have a hurricane coming our way. I wish I could remember what eye make remover wipes I use. They are amazing! I'll have to look when I get back home. I have slacked so much on reading lately. I wish I had more time to read but with wedding planning...life has been busy.

  4. Wouldn't it be fun if all of us Peaceful Posse ladies could have coffee sometime? In the meantime, I will have coffee with you on your blog! :)

I don't have any tips of eye-makeup-remover, because I have a facial wash that takes care of it. I've been using thePurifying Facial Wash from Neutrogena Naturals for a while now and it's really nice and takes off makeup like a champ.

  5. I love this! I hope someday we can do it in person. Regarding "hustle," we all need to speed up and then slow down as we search for balance in our lives. Constant adjustment is inevitable.

Oh, those shorts look so comfy. I have a couple other types of shorts from Old Navy and I need to get more - they have some of the best clothes these days! My mom loves Mary Kay, so I'm not really sure about any other suggestions for eye-makeup remover, I'm afraid. I hope you find something that works well!

Definitely a lot of pop up storms these days. Sorry to hear it's been a bit too much rain for you area though. I hope it settles down soon.

As for what I choose to read - I'm in one book club so that's a book a month, and then I try and keep up with review books, and after that, it's just whatever I'm feeling really. I'm trying to read more of the books I own this year.

  8. I keep hearing about that book but haven't had a chance to read it yet. Guess I'll have to add it to my list! :) I love Modern Mrs. Darcy and I listen to Anne Bogel's podcast, What Should I Read Next. She's awesome!

  12. I love Old Navy for some more trendy pieces and they are usually very affordable. I definitely need to tackle the books that I own. I have a list of ones I've never read and I'm slowly working my way through that list. It's a struggle because there are so many books and so little time!
