Simple Gratitude | 129

Yesterday, I was in the pool, laying on a float and staring through my sunglasses up at the sky. The clouds looked like they were close enough to touch. While I was watching them swirl around, the glasses occasionally deflecting a ray of sunshine, I was transported back to when I was ten years old, on a blanket in my backyard, staring up at the very same sky. 

What amazes me is the fact that the sky I was looking at yesterday was the same sky from way back when. Sure, it looks different. The clouds drift through and dissipate as the atmosphere produces changes in weather, but the sun, the moon, and the stars - the same ones that were up there looking down on this world yesterday were up there thirty years ago. Three hundred years ago. Three thousand years ago. What a wonder to behold.

This week, I'm grateful for:
  • Pool days. For the very first time this summer, I was able - and feeling well enough - to go for a swim. It was good exercise and a great stress reliever. Now I just need one of those giant unicorn floats.
  • Wiping the slate clean. The perfectionist in me loves that the first of July falls on a Sunday, the beginning of the calendar week, at least in my calendar. It serves as extra motivation to jump into the new month with some goals to strive for and a whole lot of willpower to back up the motivation.
  • Finishing 30 days of yoga. This weekend, I wrapped up a whole month of yoga. It wasn't easy to stick it out on the days when I was sick or my mind wasn't in the right place, but I told myself that I was worth the effort and buckled down and gosh, did it feel good.
  • Grocery hauls. Does anyone else get excited about seeing a counter full of yummy food, just home from the store? I did a little shopping last week for some fresh fruits and veggies and also picked up some hummus, wild rice and couscous - all the things needed for some vegan meal prep. This girl is happy when the fridge is well stocked.
  • Essential oils. I have this reactive lymph node in my neck right below my jaw, that freaks out on me whenever I am stressed or starting to get sick. Because I've been both recently, this thing decided to swell up to the size of a golf ball and prevent me from swallowing, chewing, and left me in some pretty severe pain. I alternated putting melaleuca (tea tree) and peppermint oils on the area (and pretty much the entire side of my face and neck) and it brought the swelling down and decreased the pain significantly. I'm still not 100% yet, but I was able to avoid going to the hospital, which is always a plus in my book.

  1. Hey girl! I had no idea you were doing 30 days of yoga- that’s so so amazing!!!! I hope you feel more then and calm as a result! Also, I have a strange lymph node that freaks out a lot, it kinda feels like it’s spamming, kinda strange because iv never ran into anyone who has that same issue! I also love grocery hauls!!!!   2. Yes, I did the TRUE program from Adriene on YouTube. Just search Yoga with Adriene. She's amazing! Lymph nodes are so weird, aren't they? LOL

  3. Pool days are amazing and I too would love a giant unicorn float! Essential oils are amazing. We have a friend going through cancer treatment and the oils are really helping him relax!

  4. They are amazing! I keep looking for the unicorn float, but I think I might have to find it online somewhere. That's awesome that your friend is finding some relief from the oils. They are so good!

    Ooh I'm sorry about the pain - I'm glad the essential oils helped keep you from the hospital! That's good! I hope you are completely pain-free soon. Yes to pool days. I did a bit of swimming over the weekend with the crazy heat, and it was just lovely.

  8. I love pool days! I only wish I had a pool I could go to. Our local rec center is putting their outdoor pool in right now and is supposed to be open this month. I'm pretty sure I'm going to sneak away one morning and leave the kids with my husband while I go lay out for a hour.
