It's only been in the last few years that I've gotten into Bible journaling and haven't done a lot of it yet, but I love the idea of incorporating elaborate hand-lettered quotes or illustrations into my quiet time. What's held me back from jumping into a project with both feet is the fear of messing up and not having the pages of my Bible as pretty as they could be. That's why I was so excited to join Worthy Publishing in introducing a few of their Ellie Claire interactive art journals.

They have a whole collection of journals, but today, I'm going to share a sneak peek at three of them. They are each unique and can be used together to help you with the creative skills that you might want to use in your quiet time.

If you've ever wanted to learn how to do the beautiful hand-lettering or illustration that you see on other Bible journaling posts, this journal would be at the top of your list. Throughout the book, is a mix of lined, grid, and dotted pages for you to use however your heart desires. Along with these are little tutorials that show you how to write the letters of the alphabet in a variety of styles, as well as banners, arrows, and other flourishes. There is plenty of practice space and quite a few full-page illustrated verses scattered through the journal.

I love the trace pages in the Faith & Lettering Journal because they give me the confidence to practice a few times before attempting to create on my own. This journal was created by graphic designer, Krystal Whitten.

THE ILLUSTRATED WORD - An Illuminated Bible Coloring Journal

This is a very unique coloring book, taking prints of ancient religious artwork and illustrated manuscripts and turning them into coloring pages. This journal is full of opportunities to pull out your colored pencils or markers and let your creative spirit out, but it also features lots of lined pages for journaling.

The illustrations in this journal are absolutely stunning as they are, but I can only imagine how beautiful this journal would be once its pages are filled with lots of words and color.

This is the smallest of the three journals, but it packs a big punch. There is a thorough introduction including a history of illuminated letters and a description of the styles, ranging from Insular to Gothic to Renaissance. There is a supplies list, in case you want to start from scratch and create your own, then you jump right into drawing the basic letter shapes, followed by adding the flourishes and embellishments.

The Illuminate Your Story Journal comes with a ribbon bookmark and a keepsake pocket in the back cover, as well as an elastic closure loop.

All three of these journals feature an embossed and foiled hardcover with a unique cloth spine that allows the book to lay flat when open - a huge bonus when you are doing fine detail work. The pages are thick enough to be able to use most journaling markers without having any bleed-through. Both the Faith & Lettering Journal and the Illuminate Your Story Journal come with elastic pen loops attached to the spines.

those books look so beautiful. I have been dabbling in hand lettering every once in a while and also had a weekend course once. But I feel I am too impatient to really be good.

  4. I'm impatient too, so hand-lettering is difficult for me. I guess practice makes perfect! :)
