If You and I Had Coffee | vol 34

Join me for a conversation over coffee? #coffeedates

If you and I had coffee...

We'd meet up on the walking path that goes around my local lake. The weather is warm and breezy today, so we would be able to enjoy a nice walk with our coffees. I'd take you around the long way so we could go past the dam and see where the old lakehouse stood before it burned down years ago, and I'd tell you about all the fun I had growing up there.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that the old saying of "when it rains, it pours" also works in the opposite cycle as well. I have recently become a believer that when you open your heart to good things, more good things are waiting in line for you. Something I never thought would happen, did, and it made me absolutely giddy with joy. Not only that, but a few other happy things have been landing on my doorstep lately. I would laugh and tell you that my 2019 horoscope said that this year would end an eight-year stint of crappy luck and I'm starting to believe it.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that one of my brothers just hit his one year sobriety anniversary and my family is planning a huge surprise party for him to celebrate that and the opening of his new business, which is doing so well. We are inviting lots of people who have been there for him on his journey and he has NO CLUE it is happening. He has battled with his addiction since our brother died in 2008 and I'm so proud of not only how well he has done, but also the handful of his friends he has also encouraged to get clean over the last twelve months.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you how much I have enjoyed watching the Crash Course series on media literacy. If you weren't familiar, I'd share that John and Hank Green are the fellas behind this YouTube channel featuring various types of educational videos that are all ten minutes or less. This particular series shares how to determine credible sources when consuming information online and it's full of fun facts that make the videos super interesting. I would definitely recommend checking it out.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd confess that I have been struggling to meet my step goals because the weather had been so rainy. Because I was unable to get out for walks, I have been popping in my earbuds and walking up and down flights of stairs in my house. I've even gotten so desperate that I've been marching in place while watching old reruns of Sex and the City just so I could meet those step goals. I'd ask if you have ever done anything this crazy to meet a fitness goal so that we could laugh at ourselves together.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you, on a less healthy note, that there is going to be a mac n cheese festival in my area later this month and I am so excited to attend. We both know how big of a fan of this particular food I am, and this is going to be like my Christmas. I would also confess that this is the main reason I've been so desperately trying to meet my step goals every day - because I'm going to have to work off all this cheesy goodness!

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that I've recently stumbled on singer/songwriter Alec Benjamin. I heard one of his songs on a SnapChat filter a few weeks ago and decided to look him up and I'm glad that I did. His lyrics are so relatable and they are funny, but boy, do they cut deep. I've had his album, Narrated For You, on repeat lately and I haven't gotten sick of it yet. He is a lyrical genius.

If you and I had coffee...

We'd finish our lap around the lake and make our way back to the gravel lot where we had parked. I'd thank you for hanging in there with me while I burn off those mac n cheese calories yet to be consumed and I'd give you a big hug and promise to see you again next month.

  2. I'll do one of these someday. If we had coffee, I'd want to know more about what made you giddy. And that I'd just started to learn how to read palms, just for fun. Also, I'd be thinking we should have brought donuts. (I'd be so down for the mac n cheese fesitval, though. I feel this should be a worldwide event.)

  3. I'd tell you that I'd totally join you at the mac and cheese festival because, yum. And I'd laugh with you over trying to hit step goals and tell you sometimes I go run up and down the stairs at work to try to hit mine too. The struggle is real.

  4. Love this post so very much, sweet Lecy ❤️ And that’s amazing regarding your brother. You must feel so proud. I love that you are throwing him a big party he has no idea about. Family is everything.

Uhm, I totally walk in place all the time to reach a step goal. Sometimes I look at my watch at night and realize I’m like 200 steps off so I get out of bed to walk and Bryan laughs at me like I’m a weirdo. Good times 🤣

I wish we could have coffee. Kind of foggy and about to rain over here, too. Oh! And a Mac and cheese festival?! Sign me up!

I would tell you that I think it's SO COOL that your brother hit his sobriety anniversary. That's super exciting and certainly something to celebrate!

I'd tell you that a mac n' cheese festival sounds phenomenal and I want you to take me along. I'm a huge mac n' cheese fan!

Oooooh and I'd tell you that I LOVE Alec Benjamin! His music is incredible and he tells such great stories in his songs. You should listen to Ben Platt's new album too, if you haven't. Kinda similar style - though slightly more vocally-focused. So good!

  11. I'm so proud of my brother. He's worked really hard to turn his life around. That's so funny that he laughs at you when you get out of bed to finish your steps. I'll admit that I've done that a few times too. Haha!

  12. I would totally bring you to the festival! The more, the merrier! Oooh! Thanks for the recommendation. I don't think I've ever listened to Ben Platt, but I'm on it now! :)

  13. I keep saying I just want it to get a *little* bit warmer so I can enjoy walks outside again. I was getting really hopeful that we were there and then yeah, snow storm is coming and all I feel is rage.

  14. I saw the news about that snow storm. That's so crazy! Hope you guys don't get much.

  16. I definitely have a few areas of life that I feel could use improvement, one of them is walking. I do have dogs to walk, but when it gets to -30 in the winter time, we just don't get out as much. Summer we are outside all the time. This is a really neat blog idea.

If we were on a coffee date, I would tell you that work has been keeping me busy and that while I love it, I'm a tad bit exhausted. I am ready for a nice vacation to the beach.

  22. Great to hear that your brother is taking positive steps in his life! Getting out for walks can be so hard. My baby usually starts crying about halfway through my walk, but still I keep going each day thinking this time will be different- so that’s my crazy thing to meet a fitness goal! But that Mac and cheese festival does sound amazing!
