If You and I Had Coffee | vol 36

Join me for a conversation over coffee? #coffeedates

If you and I had coffee...

We'd meet up for brunch at my favorite restaurant situated on a lake in the next city over. The entire outdoor seating area is a big deck overlooking the water and we'd choose a table so that we could see the ducks nesting under a nearby willow tree. I'd order a blackberry bellini and a plate of french toast with all the fruit on top.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd ask you how your season is going and if you had any vacations planned. I'd tell you that I'm headed to the beach next week with family and how excited I am for boardwalk fries, salt water taffy, and the smell of the ocean. The shore is one place where my heart is free and I can't wait to feel the sand under my feet, collect seashells, and take my niece for a midnight walk down the dock to see if we can spot a shark. (She's obsessed!)

If you and I had coffee...

I'd ask you how you are feeling about politics these days. I'd ask if you knew that there were 733 people registered to run for the office of U.S. President in 2020, and I'm keeping busy researching some of the lesser-known candidates that are polling high enough to participate in the official debates. It's almost a full-time job keeping up, but I'm determined to educate myself as much as possible so I can make a good decision, come election time. I'd tell you that I just read this book, and it's fired me up to see and help make some changes in this country.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that I've been inspired to start plotting out my goals again. I used to keep track of my monthly goals on the blog and stopped because the posts were becoming redundant, but after watching Helen Redfern break down her long-term writing goals into monthly and weekly steps, I'm thinking I need to start taking this approach to spend my time efficiently and maximize my productivity. I'd ask you if you make goals for your passion projects and how you break them down into manageable steps because I love hearing about other people's workflows.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd ask if you have ever seen the television miniseries, Big Little Lies. The show is based on the Liane Moriarty book by the same name and it stars Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, and several other fabulous actors. I fell in love with the seven-part series when it first aired back in 2017, but it ended on such a cliffhanger and there was much debate on whether a second season was planned. To my delight, it premiered on Sunday night and Meryl Streep was brought in to be one of the supporting characters. It was fabulous and definitely worth the two-year wait. I'd recommend it to you if you are a fan of Moriarty books or enjoy posh mysteries.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd share that this week, I'm undertaking a task that is both fun and a bit overwhelming: eyeglass shopping. I've been wearing the same prescription for over ten years and have developed severe headaches in the last few months. I have an eye appointment tomorrow and hope to learn that I'll need a new prescription. The glasses I currently wear are rectangular-shaped with dark frames and I'm definitely ready for a change, especially with a larger lens size so my vision field is completely covered. I'm unsure of whether I'll order my frames online or go through my eye doctor, and I'd ask if you've ever tried an online eyeglass retailer and what your thoughts were. Whatever I decide, I'll share a picture on Instagram when I choose.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd ask you, since we are officially halfway through the year, what is one thing you hope to accomplish in the rest of 2019. I've been looking at the list of my "dreams" for the year that I made in January, and I'm bummed that I haven't worked towards many of them. The year thus far, has been so busy and it seems like it's flown by, so I'd like to make the best of the next six months and try to end the year on a high note.

If you and I had coffee...

We'd polish off the last few bites of our breakfast and toss around the idea of staying for another drink, but a quickly approaching thunderstorm would encourage us to pass on them and start to pack up. We'd grab our umbrellas and head for the parking lot, but first, I'd give you a hug and tell you that next month, I'll be bringing a special treat just for you. Hope to see you then!

  2. Hey girl! I am having my morning coffee as I read your post, so I feel like we are having coffee! I wanted to tell you, something I am doing lately: analyzing my goals/yearly goals at the start of each month. And then I make a plan to achieve them (the yearly ones) I wanted to inspire you and tell you, you can do ANYTHING and achieve your yearly goals! I hope you start now! I believe in you! Until next time, xoxo

Ooh have a great time at the beach. Salt water taffy...yum. I don't have any vacations planned, though I'm hoping to get away for a night next month if all works out. We'll see! Good luck with all of your goals for the rest of the year. I love reading goal posts, so feel free to share whenever! I meant to do a monthly goals post too but it just didn't happen. LOL I am doing seasonal bucket lists though, so things fall under that. I really want to get back into my manuscript. I know I just need to buckle down and make time for it, but time just seems to fly by.

  6. I also really enjoy reading goal posts. I might include some if I end up writing a goals post again. I do enjoy bucket lists too! Hope you are able to get some work done on your manuscript. It's hard to make that kind of work a priority, but I can't wait for more details!

  9. I've been keeping an eye on the presidential candidates too, I'm very involved in politics. This is a great post!

  10. That book on politics sounds so good! Put it on hold at the library. Have a great time with your upcoming vacation! That time with your niece sounds so special. I'm headed to New York the first week of July.

  11. Oh that beach holiday sounds lovely! I hope you enjoy! It’s crazy to think that the year is halfway over, and I also haven’t achieved as many goals as I’d like. But it’s great to know that there are still six more months left in the year to keep on going. So nice to have coffee with you this month, Lecy!

  13. I'll never get over how much I love this blog series.

If you and I had coffee..

I'd tell you that the beach is my happy place but I never get the chance to go. It seems every year I make plans and they fall through and that breaks my heart because I sure do love it there.

I'd confess I had NO CLUE how many people were vying for office in 2020. That's somewhat scary and somewhat exciting simultaneously and now I feel the need to educate myself just as much.

I'd say how much I've heard about Big Little Lies but haven't watched it because I don't want to pay for HBO just for the sake of one show hahaha!

And I'd tell you that at least SOME of my dreams for 2019 are coming to fruition, which is thrilling - but I've still got a long way to go!

  14. I think we'd be a great match for brunch dates! Your order sounds amazing. Your heart is so apparent in your writing. That midnight date with your niece sounds lovely and so special. My niece is graduating from high school tomorrow! and like you talked about falling short on your 2019 goals, I feel that I dropped the ball on the teenage years of my niece's life. Aunts are so special. Enjoy your trip! Thanks for sharing your heart! and coffee.

Also feel the same about increasing my productivity. I have a million things in my head and I need an organized way to write down my tasks and goals weekly and monthly. Great conversation!

The water has such calming and relaxing qualities – enjoy your beach time. I haven't looked at my dreams and goals yet but I fear I haven't made much progress towards checking few things of my list either. So here is to a good second half. I am also thinking about re-introducing monthly goal posts. I've done them a few years back and I feel like I achieved so much. Have a happy weekend, Tobia

  19. Big Little Lies is turning into my guilty pleasure. The series has so many big named actresses in it and it's neat to see them all together. I'm excited you're moving closer to the beach. I'd honestly be happy camping on a beach for the rest of my years. :)

  20. That's fantastic! More people need to get involved!

  21. I can't wait to hear what you think of the book! Hope you enjoy New York!

  22. I'm with you. I'm definitely looking to the next six months with more intention. Let's make this time count! <3

  23. Oh Stephanie, you're so sweet. You are always welcome to join us by linking up if you write a post. I've had quite a few years where my vacation plans fell through, usually at the last minute. Big bummer, but it makes those trips that don't fall through that much sweeter! I'm with you about not wanting to pay for the premium channels. I'm hoping Big Little Lies (and some other great HBO shows) make their way to Netflix so all can enjoy. :)

  24. Oh Lindsey, you're so sweet! I would love to have brunch with you. I know we'd have a great conversation! <3

  25. Yes! If I don't write things down, I lose them all. Then I'll kick myself because I had this great idea and can't remember it. :)

  26. Thanks, Lily! It's such a fun show, right?

  27. I did feel like the first episode was a bit of a letdown, but after watching the second, I think it's going to be a very tense season!

  28. Oh, it does! Being near water always relaxes me. Hope you are able to accomplish some big things in this second half of the year. I'm cheering you on! :)
